This is not common. There are many factors that can impact suction.
The range hood must be installed at the recommended height above the stove and it must be centered above the cooking surface. The minimum duct size requirement is 6' round (including the outside vent cap). If there are too many duct turns or duct reducers, suction will be impacted. If there's barely any air moving, there is a high chance of a duct blockage! Please check all duct connections to ensure any backdraft damper flaps are not being blocked by screws or duct connections.
